I'm not completely hated in class. Actually, it's quite the opposite. People despise what they don't know. Now that I'm somewhat known, they've warmed up to me. I'm still an overachiever. I'm still the outstanding student but one of my new priorities is to help as much as I can. I don't want to be the only one Acing tests. It's a group effort. We're all in training and all we really have is each other. We're in this together and it's my goal to see all of us graduate together.

?
It's come to my knowledge that I have a few unjustifiable enemies in my class. Isn't it funny how people can make a conclusion about you because you like to be alone? They assume that you think you're better; they assume you don't like them; they assume you're stuck up. Isn't it these same qualities that we hide from ourselves? Isn't that what we assume the worst of others? That they are all the things we really are?
I do my homework. I study for test just like the rest of them and yet I'm an individual in a group. I'm isolated in a crowd. What's the point of making unneccessary enemies? Doesn't there come an age when outright hating someone for no reason becomes childish? Maybe not for everyone else but as for me, I've reached an age where my immaturity is only present when it's needed. When I'm hanging with my teenaged cousin or niece; when I'm wrestling with my nephew or playing basketball or video games with my little cousin.
When is it safe for me to be myself? When is it safe for people to accept that I also have flows; that I'm also human?
When is it my time to anything?

A black girl posing as a white superhero. But I did amazing things as well in high school; only mine were of the more standard, unnoticed variety: walking away, standing up to the "scary" hard girls and not chasing after the jocks who would grow up to be just the opposite.
I was my own hero and I even had a fan or two but still I haven't set out to accomplish any of my goals. I haven't lived any of my dreams. I haven't been to Greece, Ireland and I haven't climbed a mountain or even gone hiking for that matter. I'm embarking on a new journey and I have a ways to go before I'm even close but the first step has been taken. We all have to start somewhere.
Lincoln College may not be some people's definition of a life moving in the right direction of starting a new life at all, but for me it's a major step to something better. I've taken up a field unexpected of me and some don't think I can make it but they forget that I can be quite adamant. They forget about my determination. They forget what motivates me. How careless of them to challenge me when they want me to lose.
I'm going to win. Come follow me.
